Relief Milker Required

  • Location: Langtree, Torrington, North Devon
  • Hours: Two week rota, 4:00am–8:00am and 2:30pm–6:00pm, one weekend on / one weekend off
  • Contract: Full-time or part-time
  • Pay: Competitive salary, negotiable depending on experience

We are a well established, family run dairy farm milking 450 cows across two sites in Langtree and Peters Marland. We operate an all year round calving pattern with cows grazed through the summer and cubicle housed in winter. As a flying herd with steady routines and a practical working setup, we’re looking for a reliable Relief Milker to join our team.

The Role

You’ll work on a straightforward two week rota covering:

  • 4:00am – 8:00am
  • 2:30pm – 6:00pm
  • One weekend on, one weekend off

Milking is carried out in a Fullwood 20 point herringbone parlour (10 aside) with auto ID.

Key Responsibilities

  • Milking duties — Milking cows to a good standard within a consistent routine
  • Livestock support — Assisting with routine treatments, welfare checks, and spotting cows ready for AI (AI skills a bonus)
  • Dry cow checks — Checking dry cows daily and reporting any signs of calving
  • Grassland & grazing — Assisting with summer grazing management and simple grassland tasks, i.e. moving electric fences and helping set up grazing areas to keep cattle flowing before and after milking
  • Yard flow — Light yard duties to keep cattle moving safely to and from the parlour
  • Record keeping — Completing basic milking and livestock records accurately

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and own transport
  • Reliable, hardworking and able to work independently (milking on own)

Desirable Experience

  • At least 1 year of farm livestock and/or milking experience
  • Experience operating farm machinery
  • Good stockmanship and attention to animal welfare
